Highland Capital Adds New Member To Manage Charitable Goals
James Dondero has added a new member to his asset management firm, Highland Capital Management. Linda Owen will be joining his company as the charitable giving manager. She is the former president of The Woodall Rogers Park foundation, and will now help Highland Capital Management by teaming up with The Dallas Foundation to help the company organize and maximize their charitable options.
Highland donates roughly $3 million per year to numerous charitable organizations via The Dallas Foundation, and largely focus on veterans causes, health care, and education in their local Dallas community. Highland Capital has a strong philanthropic outlook and they focus on inspiring others and those that work for them to have a giving attitude. They readily encourage their employees to not only donate financially but also their time and commitment to the local community.
Owens is the ideal candidate to help manage the charitable aspects of Highland, as former CEO and president of The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation she was in charge of the development of Klyde Warren Park. Prior to her time with The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation she was the president and CEO of The Real Estate Council, a Dallas/Ft. Worth area real estate group and its nonprofit sector.
Her appointment came from James Dondero, a well established man in the finance industry. He has spent more than 30 years in the credit and equity markets with most of his focus on high-yield and distressed investing. He began his current company, Highland Capital, in 1993 and has spearheaded it into a pioneer in the Collateralized Loan Obligation market and the development market. He is also highly involved in developing credit oriented solutions for both retail and institutional investors around the world.
Prior to his time with Highland, Dondero worked as the Chief Investment Officer for GIC Subsidiary of Protective Life where he grew the company to over $2 billion in AUM between 1989 and 1993, a corporate bond Analyst and Portfolio Manager for American Express, and his entry position into the industry with Morgan Guaranty in the training program in 1984. His strong skills and wisdom in the financial industry have earned him the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
